A night to remember. That was our promise to attendees of “A Whole New World,” our first Highland Lakes Equality Center Prom. And we delivered if you’re to believe the many people who stopped our board of directors and prom committee members to express their thanks during the event.
Attendees conversed, danced, ate, and celebrated being together in an environment where they could be themselves without judgement. They were encouraged to cheer loudly and to laugh even louder as music blared throughout the Spicewood Vineyards Event Center.
Before the night ended, three kings and three queens shared a couples dance that got other gatherers on their feet. One lucky attendee won a quilt, while another won a gift certificate to get more wine from the vineyards.
Drag performers entertained with their high-energy routines and even funnier monologues.
And while people came to have a great time, they also gave to ensure the HLEC’s programs for education, counseling, and other social functions continue. Their generosity helps people develop friendships and get the help they need for their families.
My eternal gratitude to our prom committee for their countless hours in creating this night that people still talk about, in getting others to donate their talents in making it a night to remember, and for bringing their own loved ones and friends.
And finally a giant thank you to attendees and well-wishers. Without your presence and good thoughts, this event isn’t nearly the success we hoped for and wanted. I can’t tell you the number of volunteers who have said attendees couldn’t have been more polite, happy to be there and nicer to pose for photos.
You’re the reason the HLEC board of directors wanted to host Prom.
Speaking of photos, our photographers created a link that allows attendees to download pictures from the HLEC Prom. Go to https://bit.ly/2J1KX7s to find photos.
We’re already talking about Prom 2019. Make plans now attend. Our goal is to make it bigger and better. And the best way to do that is for you to meet us on the dance floor. You’ll find us dressed in our formal wear.
