When asked what attendees can anticipate from him during the What A Drag! show and fundraiser presented by Rae’s RBar and Grill and Haus of Fatale can anticipate, drag entertainer Luiz Fatale thought for several seconds then admitted that was a tough question.
“I’m a variety of everything,” said Luiz, who is one of several performers for the Sept. 14 show. “You never know what I’m coming up with.”
That might explain why he was voted Mr. Gay Arizona USofA 2018. He’s known for mixing in Latin numbers, Pop music hits, and good old Rock, and he does this on purpose, he added.
“I’m a little bit of everything,” he said. “Each song is different and might know the different styles I have.”
He began performing four years ago after seeing shows in night clubs. He was fascinated by the performers, the costumes and the electricity. In short, it was a group he wanted to be a part.
Though Luiz Fatale always knew he wanted to be a drag performer, a life-changing event propelled him into the industry. He was rushed to the hospital with a heart condition. While looking through his social media, he discovered an ad for Mr. Good Austin USofA pageant, which propelled him to take the first step of signing up to perform.
While he has come a long way since then, Luiz Fatale looks back on that performance as a milestone because he helped shaped the entertainer he has become.
“I did it all on my own,” he said. “I put myself out there myself with my ideas.”
What A Drag! is a fundraiser for the HLEC, a nonprofit whose mission of helping the LGBTQ community aligns with what Luiz Fatale believes. He and Aries Fatale invited the other entertainers to participate in the show.
“I believe in giving back a lot to the community,” Luiz said.
The dinner and show is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Smithwick Dance Hall at Heart of Texas Ranch. Advanced tickets are $25 and includes food from Super Taco and a cash bar.
“I love what I do, which is entertaining,” he said, “enjoying the show and having a good time.”
